Rather than relying on assumptions, I built an experiment.
I constructed a wall containing mold-contaminated drywall hidden inside and tested whether wall cavity air sampling could reliably detect it.
The results revealed something important:
The question isn't simply whether the test works.
The question is whether the test is performed correctly.
A test can be valid and still produce misleading results when the procedure isn't followed correctly.
Understanding the limitations and assumptions behind a test is just as important as understanding the results.
